4 Signs You Need to Repair Your Ducts
Cleaning your air ducts and making required repairs can improve the air quality in your Jacksonville, Florida, home. It can also increase the efficiency of your HVAC system. The ducts carry heated or cooled air from your system through the home and vents to provide temperature control. These four telltale signs could indicate that it’s time to call a professional for an inspection, cleaning, repair or replacement of your ducts:
Damage to Exposed Areas
Do you have exposed ductwork in your basement ceiling or around HVAC system components? Visible damage signifies the need for repairs. Check these areas periodically for punctures or tears that could be compromising system efficiency. Humidity can also cause corrosion as ductwork nears the end of its life.
Uncomfortable Temperature
In Jacksonville, the temperature inside the home can quickly become uncomfortable if the HVAC system isn’t working effectively. If you find that your rooms won’t cool even when the AC system is constantly running, an issue with the ductwork could be the culprit. You may also notice that your energy bills are suddenly higher than normal or the system requires more frequent repairs.
Debris Inside Ducts
Remove the vents to photograph the inside of your ducts with the flash on your camera. If you notice a buildup of cobwebs or dust or evidence of mice, the ducts could be compromised by a hole or a tear. Debris might also accumulate around the vents. As a result, it’ll lower your air quality.
Restricted Airflow
When you hold your hands near the vents, can you feel cool air coming out when the AC system is running? If not, it’s probably leaking through the ducts somewhere along the way. Ducts can also become blocked by an animal nest that keeps air from flowing through, too.
